It

Director: Andy Muschietti

Cast: Bill Skarsgård

Original: 1990

The reviews are in and the results are stellar – it looks like this remake has remained close to the source material of Stephen King‘s best-selling novel. The story follows seven children who come face to face a sadistic shapeshifter that takes the form of a evil clown called Pennywise. Whoever’s idea it was to cast Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise is an absolute genius. He looks truly terrifying in the trailer.

It comes out this Friday September 8th

mother!

Director: Darren Aronofsky

Cast: Jennifer LawrenceJavier Bardem

Original: 1968

Not much has been revealed about this mysterious story and perhaps it’s not a remake but judging by the trailer it’s safe to say there’s something seriously satanic going on here with Jennifer Lawrence at the center, which is very similar to what happened to Mia Farrow in Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby. Is Lawrence’s Veronica being groomed to bear the seed of Satan, with her husband being part of the sinister plot? Also, the name, “mother!” indicates that maternity is a central point – remake or homage the similarities are pretty stark.

mother! comes out on September 15th

Flatliners

The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott‘s classic Blade Runner is upon us. Details on the story are being tightly guarded but we do know that it’s set several decades after the original and Ryan Gosling has shared that, “it’s not a remake of the story, more an extension.” Based on the industrial-y-dystopian-y trailer the world feels as iconic as the one Scott created in 1982.
